This is a solar film sheet (10x10 inch) from BAADER PLANETARIUM for do-it-yourself solar filter, for your equipment. You can tailor-make any size to suit your equipment, such as camera lenses, binoculars or telescope. Please be reminded no mounting cell is included.
Baader AstroSolar® Safety Film is made for the construction of high-quality objective-filters for observing the sun with telescopes, binoculars, camera or video-lenses. This foil is CE-tested and reduces the intensity of sunlight by 99.999%. The patented Baader AstroSolar Safety Film 5.0 is suitable for visual and photographic solar observation at high magnification with optical instruments. It is best suited for precision work with all astronomical telescopes, binoculars and spotting scopes, as well as with all photographic camera- and tele-lenses. When using AstroSolar Safety Film 5.0 – mounted in front of your optics – you can image the Sun and safely look through the viewfinder of your camera – or you can directly look at the Sun with telescopes and binoculars at any suitable magnification.
Baader AstroSolar® film
With AstroSolar® the Sun appears in its real colour - neutral white. Other films and most glass filters produce a blurry bluish or reddish Solar image, thereby cutting part of the spectrum. Especially with an orange sun, it is very hard to see faculae regions which are visible predominantly in the blue wing of the spectrum.
Due to its neutral colour balance, AstroSolar enables the use of various colour (or interference) filters which allows the observer to concentrate on certain spectral passbands for investigations of different layers within the solar 'atmosphere'.
AstroSolar® is essentially free from pinholes, since - other than with even the most expensive glass filters - it is coated on both sides, so that the chance of two pinholes overlapping each other is extremely faint. Pinholes do appear, but to 1 out of 10000 only in optical density 2.5! Baader AstroSolar® safety film has been approved for eye safety by the National Bureau of Standards in Germany, the PTB. Unlike any other Solar Filter on the market, AstroSolar® is CE-tested according to EG-Norm 89/686 and EN 169/92 (notified body 0196). All processes connected to this product have been thoroughly tested. Coatings are inspected constantly for consistency to ensure your eye safety!
